Striding Hercules
Workshop of Giambologna · Late 16th century
A reduction of the master's model, cast within shouting distance of his workshop and finished by someone who understood the back of a figure matters as much as the front. The patina has gone the colour of strong tea exactly where four centuries of thumbs have held it.

The patina on the left flank is exactly right. One sees so many boiled ones.
